Psychology says stress feels easier to manage when people reconnect with their values: A landmark study found it reduced the body’s cortisol response
Stress is usually associated with what is happening around us, but one influential psychology study suggests that how people see themselves also shapes how the body responds under pressure. In a 2005 experiment, researchers led by David Creswell found that participants who spent a few minutes reflecting on their most important personal values before completing a stressful laboratory task showed significantly lower cortisol responses than those in a control group.
