Welfare State Cannot Grab Citizens' Land Through Adverse Possession: Punjab & Haryana High Court
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ruled that the State cannot claim ownership of citizens' land through adverse possession. Directing compensation to landowners whose land was used for an irrigation channel since 1960, the Court held that a welfare State cannot act like a trespasser and must acquire land lawfully.
